A WOODY That Not-so-Wooden-Made

The Woody That Is Made From Styrofoam
SEPTEMBER 22, 2010
by Jyppe A. Quidores

One of the projects that are being given attention of the Hua Ho Department Store Artists is the indoor display at the Toys Department of Hua Ho Department Store Yayasan. The display will be a collection of Toy Story characters and other popular toys in a form of Styrofoam sculpture that will be themed creatively. Woody, the leading Toy Story character, is one of the collections. Here, Woody is made from almost 100% Styrofoam and not from wood.

If there is an artwork, there is an artist of course. Here’s the sculptor of the Styrofoam Woody, Dong Salvar.
Woody is only the first and there are more toys in line to be sculptured, and I promise to follow up this post with the whole range of the sculptured toys collection when this exciting display project at Hua Ho Department Store Yayasan is finished.

The Smurfs @ Hua Ho Dept. Store

I've been busy the previous days doing our store display for October till December. At first, I was confused what should I make that would be displayed  for 3 months? I was thinking about Angry Birds, but then again I had a doubt because of some characters on it (the Green Pigs). So, I asked a friend about it and she agreed about Smurfs Village display. And since it is one of my favorite cartoons, I am not having second thoughts.

Meralco targets prepaid service early next year

By Paul Anthony A. Isla, Business Mirror

MANILA, Philippines - Power retailer Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) plans to introduce prepaid electricity early next year, Alfredo Panlilio, the company’s senior vice president for customer-retail services and corporate communications, said on Friday.
Panlilio said Meralco is evaluating proposals for implementing the service along the guidelines issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Prepaid electricity has been in operation in countries such as South Africa and Indonesia, and more recently in India, Australia and New Zealand, he said. In South Africa and Indonesia consumers use tokens and a meter with numbered keys where a code is punched in.
“What will make Meralco’s implementation different is our leveraging on the strength of prepaid telecoms in the Philippines. The Filipino’s love affair with his prepaid mobile is a powerful vehicle we will ride on, making the Philippine implementation somewhat unique versus the early adopters of the service,” Panlilio said.
Meralco and Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) are both controlled by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan.
The purchase of Meralco prepaid electricity will be the same as mobile-phone loading; a consumer provides the store his mobile number and the store loads that number through text messaging. The consumer then gets a confirmation text, saying that his meter is loaded, and electricity is immediately provided.
When the load is running low, Panlilio said, the consumer also gets a warning text, approximately four days before the electricity is cut off.
Panlilio said households that find prepaid a better system to match their income with their expenses will like this service because it makes control of expenses simple.
Lessors and lessees are also potential customers since the prepaid service eliminates the persistent issue of lessees leaving behind bills.
Panlilio said existing good-use practices might be adapted by local government units (LGUs), corporations, and small and medium enterprises. LGUs that want to adhere to strict budgetary guidelines, or companies looking to separate corporate-use facilities versus staff and personal-use areas, may prefer to use prepaid.
“We are studying all these possibilities to provide our customers with options to suit their needs,“ he said. “We continue to understand our customers better, scan innovations around the world and adapt them Filipino-style to be of better service and relevance here.”

If you can survive, you must remember that I love you

I was so touched with this story I read from one of my Facebook friends. It's all about the love of a mother to her child, that even her life, she sacrificed for him. I wept while reading, that's why I come up to mind to re-post it to let you know her story.

This is a true story of Mother’s Sacrifice during the Japan Earthquake.

After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young woman’s house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the woman’s body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure.

He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement,” A child! There is a child! “
The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3 months old little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mother’s dead body. Obviously, the woman had made an ultimate sacrifice for saving her son. When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up.
The medical doctor came quickly to exam the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cell phone inside the blanket. There was a text message on the screen. It said,” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” This cell phone was passing around from one hand to another. Every body that read the message wept. ” If you can survive, you must remember that I love you.” Such is the mother’s love for her child!!

The Best Brother I've Ever Had

I was thinking what nice gift to make for my brother, Jess's birthday. I want it to be unique and not been done to any close friends of mine since. Though photo-slides is nice but I did it many times before.

The COAST GUARD is now my sailboat's CAPTAIN!

My Sailboat

Usually, people describe their lives like a roller coaster; when the roller coaster is down their lives are hard, and when it's up their lives are good.  I tend to think of my life as a sailboat, as I love to sail.  Let me set the scene for you:  The ocean spreads as far as the eye can see, and I am standing on the deck of my Catalina 22 sail boat, complete with a full cabin, a spinnaker in the stow under the main deck, kitchen, and a V-birth in the bow.  There is a captain's wheel right before the tall mast.  The sail is down and the boat has been tied off to the dock.  There is a storm coming in.  Now for the symbolism; the Harbors are God, He is the shelter from every storm (bad thing, sin, evil, whatever you want to call it) in my life.  My boat is me.  The journey across the ocean is my journey through life.  There are many Harbors from the beginning of my journey to the end.  As I travel across the ocean, there are storms that come up and toss my boat around in the waves.  Sometimes, I try and tough out the storm on my own, and when I crash and my boat is about to sink, the Coast Guard (God) always comes to my rescue and tows me to safety.  Other times, I get lost.  I will have just left the Harbor, feeling good from rest and good food, and I will have ignored the Harbor Master's (God's) directions.  I get lost in the fog on the ocean, and when all hope seems lost, I will turn on my radio and beg for help.  Once again, even though I ignored them (Him) before, the Coast Guard will come to my rescue and save me from being lost forever.

A Funny Bird Song

I've heard this song many times from my mother when I was a kid. I don't know why I remember it suddenly and can't help myself smiling while humming the song.

It is a Bisayan Song to the tune of  Manang Biday a popular Ilocano folk song which is all about courtship. But this Bisayan rendition is quite far from the original meaning of the song for it talks about a fable of it main characters, the Maya and other birds. And only the first verse borrowed the latter song's tune.

Maya, Maya Nganong Nalipay Ka?

 Maya! Maya! nganong nalipay ka?

"Nalipay ko kay ting-ani na..

Kinsa ba'y dili malipay?

Pula, Puti ang among humay!

“Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts. And never hope more than you work.”

Eid ul-FitrEid al-FitrId-ul-Fitr, or Id al-Fitr (Arabic: ‎عيد الفطر ‘Īdu l-Fiṭr), often abbreviated to Eid, is a three-day Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting (sawm). Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity," while Fiṭr means "original nature," implying the restoration of one's best human composition. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the thirty days of dawn-to-sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The first day of Eid, therefore, falls on the first day of the month Shawwal.

Four Things Christians Can Do During Ramadan (Repost)

This week marks the start of one of the world’s most-observed religious events:Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting. Throughout August, millions of Muslims will be fasting, praying, reading the Qur’an, and striving for purity in thought and deed.
As Ramadan is a specifically Muslim tradition, Christians do not observe it. (The most superficially similar Christian observance is the season of Lent, with its six-week emphasis on sacrifice and prayer; but whereas Lent is an optional practice not mandated by Scripture, Ramadan is a required observance for most Muslims.)
While Christians don’t observe Ramadan, it’s nevertheless helpful to be aware of it. Here are a few things you can

Show Us the Way

How have you attempted to relieve the stress in your life? Why does God want us to overcome stress His way?

He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name (Psalm 23:3)

I read of an Indian guru who will sell you "inner peace" for about $300. His brand of self-controlled breathing and meditation is all the rage among India's stress-worn business people and millions of others worldwide. Fortunately, it can be learned in one weekend and requires just 30 minutes of practice each day to keep the good vibes coming.

Sure, taking a few deep breaths may help lower our blood pressure, but stress relief for our souls comes from God. We need Him to show us the way to peace. David pointed this our in his famous psalm when he wrote, "The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need" (Psalm 23:1). This thought is simple, but it floors me every time I read it. When I feel the pressure build and my thoughts begin to rotate like a whirlwind, I remember that "His peace will guard [our] hearts and minds" (Philippians 4:7). He is all we need.

Because He is sufficient, God is more than able to "[guide us] along right paths, bringing honor to His name" (Psalm 23:3). The real antidote for stress is to overcome it with His power—to honor Him!

Maybe you're thinking, that's just great, but my mailbox is overflowing with bills and I can't sleep. There's chaos at our house 24/7. When David was stressed, he wrote, "I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me" (Psalm 23:4) God's guidance is a close, protective leadership meant to "restore, support, and strengthen you, and He will place you on a firm foundation" (1 Peter 5:10).

Whether you work in an office or a factory or with a busy 2-year-old, stress is unavoidable. Fortunately, God can help us manage it, and His brand of inner peace is not for sale. He just wants to show us the way.

Who Cares?

What kind of "sacrifices" do you give to God? Are you stealing from God by giving Him second-best?

Should people cheat God? Yet you have cheated Me! (Malachi 3:8)

The book of Malachi was written around 420 BC as a warning to the nation of Israel. God accused the priests of offering "defiled" sacrifices (Malachi 1:7). Specially, He was concerned with the nation's direct disobedience in not giving Him their best (v.8), and for withholding the tithes He had commanded them to give for His work (3:8-14).

So what does this have to do with us? We don't bring God animal sacrifices. The death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ was the one-time sacrifice for our sins (Hebrews 10:1-18). Malachi doesn't apply to us, right? Surely we're not guilty of giving God blemished sacrifices! Or are we?

Breaking the Cycle

Listen to Psalm 13 via www.biblegateway.com
O Lord, how long will You forget me? Forever? (v. 1)
My father grew up without a dad. When he was 5 years old, his father left the family and never returned. When friends later asked my grandfather whether he was related to my dad, he refused to admit that my dad was his son—disowning and declaring him to be a distant relative.

By most accounts, I also should have grown up in a broken home with a distant dad. Scripture says that the sins of the fathers are passed along to the third and fourth generations (Exodus 20:5; Numbers 14:18; Jeremiah 32:18). It's said that molested children grow up to be child molesters; the abused become the abusers; and children with absent parents turn into parents who are unavailable for their own kids.

Every father wants their child to be...

I Want To Be Just Like YOU

He climbs in my lap for a goodnight hug
He calls me Dad and I call him Bub
With his faded old pillow and a bear named Pooh
He snuggles up close and says, "I want to be like you"
I tuck him in bed and I kiss him goodnight
Trippin' over the toys as I turn out the light
And I whisper a prayer that someday he'll see
He's got a father in God 'cause he's seen Jesus in me

Lord, I want to be just like You
'Cause he wants to be just like me
I want to be a holy example
For his innocent eyes to see
Help me be a living Bible, Lord
That my little boy can read
I want to be just like You
'Cause he wants to be like me

Got to admit I've got so far to go
Make so many mistakes and I'm sure that You know
Sometimes it seems no matter how hard I try
With all the pressures in life I just can't get it all right
But I'm trying so hard to learn from the best
Being patient and kind, filled with Your tenderness
'Cause I know that he'll learn from the things that he sees
And the Jesus he finds will be the Jesus in me

Right now from where he stands I may seem mighty tall
But it's only 'cause I'm learning from the best Father of them all

Respect everyone, and love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God, and respect the king. (v.17)
The top reason people leave their jobs, according to Steve Miranda of the Society for Human Resource Management, is due to bosses that belittle their employees or exhibit various forms of disrespectful behavior. "Bad bosses are energy vampires," Miranda says.

How should you respond when you're under the authority of a boss or someone else you struggle to respect? Motivational speaker and Olympic swimming gold-medalist Josh Davis believes, "There is never any reason to be rude or abrasive to another human being." Davis says, "I apply a biblical principle to help me: 'Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people' "(Philippians 2:14-15).

Healing the Wounds

Listen to Luke 22
One of them struck at the high priest's slave, slashing off his right ear. But Jesus said, "No more of this." And He touched the man's ear and healed him (vv.49-51).
Jesus prays on the mountain, His anguish heightened as His death draws near. The disciples, having fallen asleep, are startled as Judas and his angry crowd charged toward their friend. Judas plants his ghastly kiss on Jesus' cheek, the guards step forward, and fear ripples through the disciples' chests.

I wonder what I might've done if I were in the disciples' predicament that evening? "If you don't have a sword", Jesus had said, "sell your cloak and buy one" (Luke 22:36). Would I also have missed the metaphor and taken Him literally? If I were bleary-eyed and startled by the horde, would my hand have reached for the sword hilt? If I were Peter, would I also have lunged at the High Priest's servant, slashing in defense? (v.50, 18:10).

What You Ain't Got

Read John 14:23-29
"The peace I give is a gift the world cannot give (v.27).
Harrison Ford's career embodies success. His movies have earned more than $6 billion (US). But in a recent interview, Ford made this profound, albeit ungrammatical comment: "You only want what you ain't got." The interviewer asked him what it was he wanted. Ford gave a one-word reply: "Peace."

How do you define success? Perhaps an elusive goal beckons just around the corner. If only I had "that", you think, everything would be all right. But the truth is, that's a lie. There is no thing out there that makes everything better.

On the night before He was crucified, Jesus gave His disciples the path to real peace. "Don't let your hearts be troubled," He said. "Trust in God, and trust also in Me" (John 14:1).

Tips on How To Clean and Maintain Paintbrushes

If you do a good job with your painting, you will probably purchase high quality paintbrushes, and in order to ensure that those paint brushes stay in tip top condition you will want to be sure to clean and maintain them properly. So, the following are some tips and suggestions for how to clean and maintain paintbrushes properly and extend their life.
Good brush cleaning starts even before the brush touches any paint. In order to make final cleanup easier and prolong the life of your brush, always dampen the brush with the appropriate solvent or thinner for the finish material you intend to use before loading the brush with finish. This is called preloading the brush.
Preloading the brush draws thinner into the ferrule and prevents the finish from drying out on the brush during use. Preloading also prevents the finish from clumping as you apply it. So, as you can see this has several benefits.
